Just ask a barbecue aficionado and you will be told that not only does barbecue have regional styles, it is an individual pursuit of smoked meat perfection. For some Texas style barbecue, try Bricks Smokehouse BBQ and Grill at 1970 Eureka Way.

What do the words “trendy” and “the 1970s” bring to mind? Leisure suits, Pet Rocks, shag carpet, and The Redding Downtown Mall, perhaps? Just like bell-bottom jeans, not all bad ideas are hopeless. Herreras Bakery

Want to add adventure to your next trip down 1-5?  Stop in Maxwell, California, and visit Herreras Bakery and Mexican grocery store.  Although it's just off I-5, Maxwell didn't transform into a fuel and fast food freeway town. These days, Herreras Bakery is about the only business that is operating. Apparently, I am not the only one who loves Mexican pastries.

The Village Delicatessen

CLOSED
Downtown Redding has the largest concentration of independent restaurants in the city. Sure, navigating Downtown Redding can be frustrating. The one-way streets are confusing. The train blocks traffic. The parking is limited. However, it is well worth the effort. The dining choices are numerous, the selection is varied, and the cuisine promising. Craving a sandwich, homemade soup, or a salad for lunch? I have a suggestion. Have you eaten at The Village Delicatessen at 1300 Market Street?

Savory Spoon

Are Redding's fortress-style strip malls a capricious declaration of historical whimsy or an appalling blight? Fortunately, amidst the crenulations and classical statuary, Savory Spoon, located at 1847 Hartnell Ave, is trying to change those choices. The Savory Spoon wants to become a restaurant choice and community model for healthy, homemade-style cuisine.

Culinary Babe Moose Munch

Happy New Year

Being a culinary rebel, for a Christmas Cookie Party I made carmel corn with chocolate drizzle, better known by Harry and David fans as Moose Munch. It was so yummy that I made another batch for my daughter to take to the Bay Area as a New Year's Eve hostess gift.
